There is no universal winner, and anyone who says otherwise is usually selling the platform they know best. For TikTok vs Snapchat ads in Saudi Arabia, a rough rule holds: Snapchat suits businesses selling to a daily local audience, like a restaurant in Al Malqa or a salon in Jeddah. TikTok suits products with a story, or a demo that works on video. A fair test, with the same goal and budget on both, settles it for your business.
Why every Saudi marketer gets asked this
Both platforms are part of the daily routine for Saudi users, and both pitch themselves as the first choice for advertisers. Snap has a long relationship with the Saudi audience, and in November 2024 it opened its first office in the Kingdom, with a creator hub, in Diriyah’s JAX district. TikTok has become a main place to discover products, restaurants and places. So business owners hear two opposite opinions, and many agencies lean toward the platform they know best.
We ask a different question. Where does your customer spend time, and what do you need from them this month? Awareness for a new brand, visits to a branch, or orders from your Salla or Zid store?
How people use each platform
Snapchat: close, daily communication
People open Snapchat to message friends, watch Stories and see what is happening around them. Sessions are short and frequent through the day, and the content is personal and casual. An ad here feels closer to a message from a friend or a recommendation from a creator the user follows. That makes it a good fit for offers, visits and quick decisions.
TikTok: discovery and entertainment
People open TikTok to scroll the For You feed and find content they did not know about. The algorithm shows a video to people likely to care, even if they do not follow the account. That gives new brands a chance to reach people fast, as long as the content earns attention in the first second.
Ad formats compared
Main Snapchat formats
- Snap Ads: full-screen image or video between Stories, with a swipe or tap to your site, app or store.
- Collection Ads: a main visual with several tappable products, built for e-commerce.
- Dynamic Ads: generated from your product catalog, often used to retarget store visitors.
- Sponsored Lenses and Filters: augmented reality experiences people use themselves, good for launches and occasions.
- Sponsored Snaps: a brand message delivered to the Chat inbox. Availability depends on your account and market.
Main TikTok formats
- In-Feed Ads: vertical video that appears between organic videos.
- Spark Ads: boost an existing post from your account or from a creator with their permission, so engagement stays on the original post.
- TopView: the first thing a user sees when opening the app. A reserved, high-reach format for big launches.
- Smart+ campaigns: hand much of the targeting and budget allocation to TikTok’s automation. They need clean conversion tracking to work well.

Which platform fits which goal
- Foot traffic to a branch or restaurant: Snapchat is often the closer fit, thanks to daily use and location targeting inside a city.
- Online store sales: both can work, as long as the pixel and the Conversions API are set up correctly. Start where your product looks best on video.
- Awareness for a new brand: TikTok gives faster reach to strong content. Snapchat gives higher frequency with the same person.
- App installs: both support app campaigns. The real difference shows in user quality after the install, not in the install count.
- Leads for a service: both offer instant lead forms. Lead quality needs close tracking and fast follow-up calls.
Creative is where most advertisers lose
The mistake we see most: a horizontal spot made for TV or YouTube, cropped at the sides and pushed to both apps. People swipe past it in a second. They are not analyzing the ad. They just know it was not made for that screen.
What works on Snapchat
- Phone-shot, close and direct, as if the owner is sharing a Story.
- A clear offer in the first two seconds, with the city or district if the business is local.
- Licensed Snapchat creators whose audience looks like your customer.
What works on TikTok
- A hook in the first second: a question, a result or an unexpected scene.
- The platform’s own language: trending audio, on-screen text, fast pacing.
- Creators explaining the product in their own way, then boosted with Spark Ads.
Before you sign any creator: in Saudi Arabia, a creator who publishes paid ads must hold a Mawthooq license issued under the General Authority for Media Regulation. Check the license before you sign with any creator.
How to test both platforms fairly
A good test answers one question clearly. This is the approach we use in our paid advertising work:
- Pick one measurable goal: a completed order, a booking or a qualified lead. Do not compare TikTok views with Snapchat clicks.
- Set up measurement before launch: both pixels, server-side conversions where possible, and clear UTM tags per platform.
- Make native creative for each: one idea, two executions, so you test the platform and not the edit.
- Split budget evenly and run long enough: usually two to four weeks, so campaigns leave the learning phase and patterns appear.
- Compare cost per result, not cost per click: divide spend by orders or leads recorded in your own system, then check their quality.
- Decide, then iterate: move most of the budget to the stronger platform and keep a small share testing new ideas on the other.
Reading the results
Pull the numbers into one place outside the platform dashboards, because each platform counts results in its own way with different attribution windows. Ask four questions. What did one result really cost? Do Snapchat customers complete payment and come back at the same rate as TikTok customers? Was it the platform or the idea that won? Is the result repeatable, or did it depend on one creator or one exceptional offer?
Also look at branded searches on Google and direct WhatsApp messages during the test. Part of an ad’s effect never shows in the platform dashboard, but it shows in your sales.
Saudi market notes
- Seasons change results: Ramadan, the two Eids, Founding Day, National Day and White Friday raise competition for ad space. Do not judge a platform from a test run only at the peak of a season.
- Cities are not one market: what works in Riyadh may need changes for Jeddah or Dammam, in dialect, offer and timing.
- Dialect matters: natural Saudi dialect builds more trust than formal Arabic or another market’s dialect.
- Data protection: Saudi Arabia’s Personal Data Protection Law requires clear consent for marketing messages, so be careful when uploading customer lists for targeting.
Mistakes that make the comparison worthless
- Running one platform for a week, then stopping because results look weak.
- Judging from platform dashboards alone, without matching them to real sales.
- Changing targeting, creative and budget on the same day, so you cannot tell what made the difference.
- Building the whole verdict on a single creator’s campaign.
If you can only start with one
Most Saudi businesses end up on both: TikTok to get discovered, Snapchat to stay in mind and close the sale. If the budget only covers one test at a time, our default is simple. A local business that lives on visits starts on Snapchat. A product that needs to be seen and explained starts on TikTok. Add the second platform once you know your cost per result on the first.
The split after that comes from your own data, not from a brand you read about. Strategy before activity, as we say at Kazaplan.

Frequently asked questions
Is Snapchat or TikTok better for advertising in Saudi Arabia?
Neither is better for every business. Snapchat often suits local businesses, quick offers and store visits, while TikTok suits discovery and products that show well on video. The reliable way to decide is to test both with the same goal and budget for long enough, then compare the cost of real results such as orders or bookings, not clicks or views.
How long should a TikTok vs Snapchat test run?
Usually two to four weeks. That gives campaigns time to leave the learning phase and show patterns you can trust. Run the test in a normal period rather than at the peak of Ramadan or White Friday, because seasonal competition raises costs and changes buying behavior, which can distort the comparison.
Can I use the same video on TikTok and Snapchat?
You can, but it usually performs worse. Keep the same idea and make a native version for each platform. Snapchat rewards close, casual footage with a clear offer in the first two seconds, while TikTok needs a strong hook and the platform's own style of audio, text and pacing. Recycled videos tend to look like ads and get skipped.
Do influencers in Saudi Arabia need a license to run paid ads?
Yes. A creator who publishes paid advertising in Saudi Arabia needs a Mawthooq license under the General Authority for Media Regulation. Ask for the license number and verify it before any deal, and agree in writing on content, posting dates and the right to boost the post. This protects your brand as well as the creator.
